A new artistic lens at LaGrange Art Museum

Featuring two exhibits this summer, LaGrange Art Museum is a must-visit for art lovers!

A true celebration of creativity, LaGrange Art Museum is featuring two contrasting but compelling exhibits this summer. Lawrence J. Philp’s Color Play and Butch Anthony’s Art, Nature, and Intertwangleism, featured until mid-August, 2022, explore the artists own inherent creativity, and these exhibits are sure to spark a creative synapse or two for their visitors!

Butch Anthony: Art, Nature, and Intertwangleism

Often art is thought of as paint, sculpture, or photography. Sometimes, however, artists create completely new mediums of artistic expression through their work. Such is the case with Butch Anthony’s new exhibit at LaGrange Art Museum. Art, Nature, and Intertwangleism explores the vision and discoveries that Anthony has made over the past 50 years.

At the age of fourteen Butch Anthony began the journey that is now encompassed in his Museum of Wonder in Seale, Alabama. Anthony has collected and created furniture, taxidermy, sculptures and more works of art over the past five decades, and his commitment to finding and creating eclectic pieces is evident in the creations displayed in this newest exhibit. This installment is one that you truly have to see to believe, and it will leave you thinking about the stories behind these artifacts.

Lawrence J. Philp: Color Play

Lawrence J. Philp, of Harlem, New York, offers a refreshing view on color in his exhibition; Color Play. Philp is an avid practitioner of painting, collage, and printmaking, and you can see those exemplified in his artwork. His work is a refreshing combination of color and spontaneity, and gives patrons plenty to ponder as they stroll the museum.

A graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, Philp’s work has been featured across the country, including New York, Florida, and Colorado. He has taught at a number of places, such as Parson’s School of Design. Philp has won numerous awards and now resides in Rex, Georgia.
