Fish For A Trophy Bass On West Point Lake

West Point Lake is easily accessible around LaGrange and is known for producing trophy bass. In addition to fishing, you can enjoy a variety of other activities like boating, camping and watching the sunset over the water.

Fishermen enjoy casting out from public fishing piers at Hardley Creek Park, Rocky Point Park, and McGee Bridge Park. For those who want to fish from a boat, there are convenient boat ramps in thirty public areas around the lake. Bass fishing and pontoon boats are also available for rent at Highland Pines Resort and Marina.

In the water, there are many fishing structures marked with buoys. Look for buoys labeled “Fish Attractor.” Look for these buoys and banks with low-hanging tree limbs around the lake. During the spring, shad like to spawn in these areas, making them a great spot to catch bass. If you thoroughly enjoy fishing, you might consider hiring a fishing guide. We have many local experts who love to share their secret spots and techniques.

Have Photo Op at The Historic Callaway Monument

If you’re looking to spend time outdoors, a visit to Callaway Memorial Tower has to be on your list. The celebrated monument has strong ties to the area and nearby Hills & Dales Estate, the historic Callaway home and garden. If you have time, Hills & Dales is an unforgettable stop worth a visit!

Built as a tribute to Fuller E. Callaway, the tower is modeled after the Campanile of St. Mark’s Square in Venice, Italy. During warmer months, the luscious green lawn is the perfect escape for an afternoon picnic. The monument sits surrounded by changing trees, making it just as picturesque in cooler months. No matter the season, this spot is ideal for photographs, family fun or reflection.

Enjoy One Of The World’s Best Hotdogs

A trip to LaGrange would be inconceivable without stopping for lunch at Charlie Joseph’s. Home of the World Famous Hot Dog, there’s hardly ever a free barstool in the downtown location when lunchtime rolls around! But not to worry; there’s a second location just a few miles away. For over a century, Charlie Joseph’s has been serving classics like chili dogs, hamburgers and Brunswick stew.

It has maintained its nostalgic ambiance through the extensive collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia that covers the walls. Stepping into Charlie Joseph’s feels like stepping back in time to the days when a pack of chewing gum cost five cents and Coca-Cola only came in a glass bottle. In addition to the Coca-Cola collectibles, the downtown location also sports a Coca-Cola mural on the outside wall, offering a great post-lunch photo op.

After you’ve finished shopping, lounge on a park bench and admire the fountain and statue of French aristocrat Marquis de Lafayette. If you’re looking to cool off or quench your thirst, grab a bubble tea or indulge in an extravagant cup of rolled ice cream from nearby Ice Queen.

After dark, the square truly begins to shine. The twinkling lights strung from the trees and the majestically lit Revolutionary War hero make for an amazing photo spot sure to brighten up your Instagram profile.
